KDA to felicitate students

BANGALORE: The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has decided to felicitate three SSLC and PUC students who wrote their examinations in Kannada and scored the highest marks at the taluk level.

KDA Chairman ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru on Monday told presspersons here that 1,200 students who had scored high marks in the SSLC and PUC examinations would be felicitated with a plaque, a wrist-watch, a pen, a school bag, a certificate and a cash award. Students who stood first, second and third in the SSLC and PUC examinations would also be honoured, and the programme would be organised in August. It would cost the KDA Rs. 90 lakh, he said.

Mr. Chandru said there was nothing much to the Union Cabinet’s decision to grant classical status to the Kannada language.

The Centre had granted classical status to Tamil in 2004 and sanctioned Rs. 750 crore during the past four years for the promotion of that language.
